Sciatica Relief

Winston-Salem & Greensboro Chiropractic Treatment for Sciatica

Sciatica has several causes, all of which cause pain in the sciatic nerve that runs along the spine and down the back of both legs. At Liringis Chiropractic, serving the Greensboro and Winston-Salem areas, chiropractor Dr. Steve Liringis and chiropractor Dr. LaTanya Bowman offer treatments for patients suffering from sciatic nerve pain.

Symptoms and Causes of Sciatica

Greensboro chiropractors treat sciatica painA common cause of pain in the sciatic nerve is a herniated disc. Discs act as cushions between the bones of the spine. A herniated disc occurs when one of the discs ruptures or becomes worn down. The out-of-place disc creates pressure on the sciatic nerve, which causes pain up and down the spine. Some people also feel numb or a tingling sensation in their back and legs. Another symptom is muscle weakness in the legs and back.

While a herniated disc is a common cause of sciatica, other factors can cause the pain as well. People who suffer from a narrowing of the spine, or spinal stenosis, are also likely to have sciatic nerve pain. A tight piriformis muscle may also cause pain. The piriformis muscle can also spasm, which is painful, as the muscle is directly over the top of the sciatic nerve. Other causes of back pain from sciatica include trauma from an auto accident, a personal injury, or a tumor on the spine. Usually, a patient will feel more pain when sitting down. In some rare cases, a sneeze may result in sciatic pain.

Pain Relief and Treatment

Chiropractic treatment has helped many patients suffering sciatic nerve pain. A spinal adjustment relieves pressure on the nerve, easing the feeling of pain and helping a patient regain motion and strength in the area. Massage of the pirformis muscle is another treatment option. Since the pain may be due to a tight muscle, massaging the area helps the muscle relax, reducing pain.

Liringis Chiropractic Launches New Blog

We are delighted to welcome you to what we hope will prove an invaluable resource for health and wellness information. We look forward to bringing you exciting news, helpful hints and professional advice related to Greensboro and Winston-Salem chiropractic care.

Greensboro chiropractic care for personal injury patientsIf you have never been treated by a chiropractor before, you should take a good long look at this all-natural method of correcting misalignments in the body to encourage healing. An auto accident injury, for example, can throw your vertebrae out of their normal position, causing neck or back pain, herniated discs, nerve problems and loss of muscle function. We can perform adjustments that put everything back in its proper place, but we do not actually heal you -- we merely facilitate your body's own healing processes. If you are one of the many liability insurance holders in North Carolina covered by Med-Pay, you may even be able to apply that coverage to your treatment.

Our chiropractors, Drs. Liringis and Bowman, also work with personal injury and sports injury patients, as well as sufferers from chronic illnesses. Since the central nervous system coordinates signals throughout the body, a chiropractor can help with such varied ailments as headaches, ADHD, allergies, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis and many others. In fact, you can benefit from our care even if you have no medical condition at all. We encourage patients to come in at regular intervals for wellness checkups. Our practiced eye and advanced diagnostic techniques can detect any little problems in the making and perform minor adjustments to keep you healthy all year round.

We Want to Hear from Our Greensboro and Winston-Salem Readers!

There is practically no limit to the educational resources we can share with our current and future clients on this blog. So we would like to start by opening the floor to suggestions. What topics would you really like to see covered here? What health conditions, treatment techniques or healthcare issues would you like to learn more about?

Post your questions!
